Lithium-ion lift trucks (EP)
What is a lithium-ion battery?
A lithium-ion battery or Li-ion battery is a rechargeable battery that is increasingly used for electrical machinery, mainly because of its high energy density and long service life.
Depending on the type of lift truck, the decision about battery technology can be simple or slightly more difficult. If you look at the prices of pallet trucks nowadays, it seems logical to choose a Li-ion version even with ride-on machines, as the cost price is comparable and offers enormous advantages. When purchasing reach trucks and lift trucks, the price difference for most manufacturers is still an obstacle for many customers. In that case, only manufacturers with custom-made Li-ion trucks can offer a real alternative, as their production costs can match the price of lead-acid lift trucks.
Why opt for a lithium-ion battery?
- No maintenance
- Zero emission
- Longer lifespan
- Faster charging
- Interim charging
- Lower weight
- Higher efficiency
no need for a daily check and water refill.
(no sulphation -> lithium-ion is maintenance-free)
Li-ion batteries do not produce any harmful or toxic gases during their charging phase. So they can be charged anytime and anywhere without the need for a special charging bay
service life up to 3 to 5 times longer than a similar lead-acid battery
A full charge in 2 to 3 hours (compared to 8 to 12 hours with a lead-acid battery)
during your break you can easily perform an interim charge (20 minutes of charging equals 15% of extra battery charge and can help you through the day)
higher energy density and thus light and small batteries allow the machine to be built around the battery (= more compact vehicle dimensions and yet more legroom for the driver)
up to 95% efficiency compared to the 80% of a lead-acid battery
