Family business - Patrick and Joey Deloor

Patrick De Loor is a specialist (electro-) mechanic and has been with TVH for 34 years. His son Joey joined the company 10 years ago and is currently a machine inspector.

Patrick: “I first worked for another company. When my then-boss moved to TVH, he asked if I wanted to follow him. Since then, I've always been tinkering with machines, including 10 years of field service. My retirement is slowly approaching; I have about two more years to go. But I still come to work every day with a smile.”

Joey: “Initially, my heart was set on horticulture. But it turned out not to be easy to find a stable job in that sector. At one point, my dad suggested I attend a Job Day at TVH Parts. Despite having no technical background, I was able to start immediately in the warehouse. After 5 years, he noticed I was losing motivation and asked why I didn’t apply for the position of machine inspector at TVH Equipment. Five years have passed since then, and I'm still enjoying it immensely. It's mostly outdoor work, which suits me well.”

Patrick: “TVH Equipment is definitely a good employer; otherwise, I wouldn’t have lasted so long. My other two children also did holiday jobs here, and my son even chose TVH Equipment as his internship place. But eventually, both went in different directions.” I'm very glad I listened to my father."

Joey: “What I like about my job is that every day is a bit different. Recently, the range was expanded to include mini excavators, adding a new challenge. No, I no longer dream of a future in horticulture; I'm much too well-off here. And job security is, of course, also important.”

Patrick: “We don’t see each other very often here, as we work in different buildings. But since we both received an electric lease bike, we occasionally run into each other on the way. This way, we can combine business with pleasure: we improve our fitness and have the chance to catch up.”

Joey: “We actually have much more contact privately. Every Monday or Tuesday evening, my brother, sister, and I have dinner at our parents' house. If something special happens at work, it might come up. But not for too long, as that wouldn’t be nice for the others.”

Patrick: “No, it’s not like we take our job home and talk about nothing else. If Joey has an issue, I'm probably the right person to listen to his story, as I know the company so well. But beyond that, the fact that we have the same employer has long been no issue for us.”

Joey: “And I'm still very happy that I listened to my father, even though I initially had completely different plans.”
