J. Hermans & Co rents all its machinery from TVH Equipment

Construction company J. Hermans & Co is currently building the glass facades of the RTBF Média Square, the new building of the French-speaking public broadcaster. TVH Equipment provides the required high-tech machines to successfully complete this challenging task.

J. Hermans & Co is a leading construction company from Tienen. This family-owned business has been active for over 100 years - currently led by the fourth generation - and specializes in aluminum glass facade construction. Numerous prestigious office projects, schools, hospitals, and government buildings are already featured on their impressive list of references. And soon, the Média Square will be added to that list, serving as the new home for RTBF on Reyerslaan in Brussels. The seven above-ground floors, reaching a height of 30 meters, cover a total area of over 38,000 square meters.

Working at great heights

The Média Square has been the workplace of Guy Jacques, site manager at J. Hermans & Co, for nearly two years. "It is my job to supervise the 40 subcontractors working here for us," says Guy. "In the morning, I distribute specific tasks and ensure that everyone has the right machinery. This means that I must notify our purchaser in a timely manner to place a new order for each new phase of the project. You can safely say that we have been renting all our machinery from TVH Equipment for many years. The specific needs vary from project to project, but usually, a significant number of telescopic boom lifts are included. They are ideal for the work we do and are easily maneuverable at height."

We take a walk around the site with Guy. We count no less than five JLG 1350SJP telescopic boom lifts with a working height of up to 43 meters, and one articulating boom lift, an 800AJ. There are also six different types of scissor lifts and two telescopic spider lifts, namely a Leo 30T and a Leo 35T from the renowned brand Teupen. "We use the latter two for roofing," points out Guy. "Because they are lightweight and have rubber crawler tracks, it can be done without any problems." We conclude the short tour with a rotating telehandler, a Manitou MRT 3570. With a working height of 35 meters, it is the largest in TVH Equipment's rental fleet. "We also rent a jib with 2 hooks," adds Guy. "It's perfect for lifting the wooden columns that we install vertically in the facades."

Tailored site advice

How does Guy know which equipment is the perfect choice for a specific task? "After all these years, I'm quite familiar with the range, but in difficult cases, I ask Robby De Pauw, Rental Representative at TVH Equipment, to come to the site. He takes the necessary measurements and provides customized advice. This proves that TVH Equipment is much more than just a rental company. They are committed to actively thinking and searching for the optimal solution together with the customer. That is definitely a great added value. Rent from a friend, right?"

In addition, Guy Jacques appreciates the fact that he can always rely on punctual deliveries: "In this industry, where time is truly money, that is crucial. And you can have complete confidence in the maintenance service of TVH Equipment as well. When I call for assistance, I know that technician Jerry or one of his colleagues will be there a few hours later. Such a fast, reliable, and high-quality service is truly invaluable."
